A caregiver meal and fluid log

A caregiver log is a large-print page: what was offered, what was eaten, and fluids. It helps the next person on duty and the clinician who asks. It is not a judgment of the day.

Caregivers · 4 min read · Updated 2026-10-06

In the portions written below, protein is about 29–30 g, calories about 430–480, and sodium about 140–160 mg. Those are rounded kitchen estimates before extra cheese, bread, or a heavy pour of sauce.

If intake is dropping day after day, call the clinician. The log is the evidence, not the treatment.

How to run it

  1. Print the large-type log and put it on the fridge.
  2. Write the meal in a few words and roughly how much was eaten.
  3. Note fluids, including soup.
  4. Pass the page to the next caregiver instead of texting a novel.

Soy milk plus yogurt is what gets this bowl near 30 grams of protein. Oats alone will not.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1 cup unsweetened soy milk
  • 1/2 cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon hemp seeds
  • 1/2 cup berries
  • cinnamon

Method

  1. Stir oats, soy milk, yogurt, hemp, and cinnamon in a jar.
  2. Refrigerate at least 4 hours, usually overnight.
  3. Add berries in the morning. Eat cold, or microwave until hot if you want it warm.

Fridge up to 3 days. The texture softens as it sits, which is the point.

Storage times are general guidance, not a lab test of this recipe. A shorter package or recipe instruction governs. Freezing and reheating do not rescue food left out too long, or a heat-stable toxin that already formed. USDA FSIS: Leftovers and Food Safety.

Soft enough for someone who wants an easy breakfast, and sturdy enough to wrap and take out the door.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon oil for the pan
  • 3/4 cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt, for serving

Method

  1. Mash the banana. Stir in the eggs, oats, and cinnamon. Let it sit 3 minutes so the oats drink.
  2. Cook small pancakes in a lightly oiled skillet over medium heat, about 2 minutes a side, until the centers are set.
  3. Serve the whole batch with the yogurt. The yogurt is part of the plate, not a garnish.

Fridge 3 days. Freezer: best quality within 1 month (pancakes with paper between them). Add the yogurt when you eat. If you serve it hot, reheat to 165°F with a food thermometer.

Details that matter

  • Write dinners first. Breakfasts and lunches can repeat.
  • A grocery list sorted by aisle saves more sanity than a prettier font.
  • Pencil beats pen. Plans change and that is not a failure.
